1988 – National Youth Ballet established

Down Arrow
This National Youth Ballet programme from 2011 illustrates the breadth and resourcefulness of their work

Jill Tookey founded the National Youth Ballet of Great Britain (NYB) in 1988, and remained artistic director until her death in 2016. Thousands of young people have taken part in NYB’s productions, gaining experience in the art, and a large number have gone on to dance professionally. Many choreographers at different stages of their careers have staged works for NYB. The musical range has always been wide and the production values high. NYB continues to thrive and develop, with many programmes and initiatives in various venues throughout each year. The current artistic director is Louise Bennett.
