1990 – Irek Mukhamedov joins The Royal Ballet

After his defection from the Soviet Union, Bolshoi Ballet star Irek Mukhamedov joined The Royal Ballet. He remained with the company for 11 years, acting as a final muse for Kenneth MacMillan and bringing his powerful stage personality and impressive technique to the repertoire. He formed stage partnerships with Lesley Collier and Viviana Durante. He was appointed  OBE in 2000 for services to dance.
