1995 – David Bintley becomes director of Birmingham Royal Ballet

Following Peter Wright’s retirement, David Bintley was appointed artistic director of Birmingham Royal Ballet, a position he held until 2019. Under his leadership, as well as dancing works by Bintley, the company revived a number of older ballets that had disappeared from the repertory, including Ninette de ValoisThe Prospect Before Us, Frederick Ashton’s Dante Sonata, and a new version of Robert Helpmann’s Miracle in the Gorbals by Gillian Lynne.
