1973 – Premiere of Peter Darrell’s The Nutcracker by Scottish Theatre Ballet

Down Arrow

In 1973, Scottish Theatre Ballet presented a new production of The Nutcracker. Using Pyotr Ilyich Tchaikovsky’s score, Darrell created largely new choreography, but retained the original dances by Lev Ivanov for the Grand Pas de Deux danced by the Sugar Plum Fairy and her Cavalier. The designs for the production were by Philip Prowse. Anna-Marie Holmes danced the leading role alongside her husband, David Holmes.
