Nadine Baylis (1940–2017). British theatre designer

Nadine Baylis trained at Central School of Art and is particularly associated for her work in modern dance. She was closely associated with the designer Ralph Koltai early in her career, both in dance and in the theatre, and designed costumes for works in Ballet Rambert’s repertoire, especially those choreographed by Glen Tetley. Productions by Tetley included Ziggurat, Embrace Tiger and Return to Mountain and The Tempest for Ballet Rambert; Field Figures for The Royal Ballet; and Alice for National Ballet of Canada. Other works designed by Baylis were the costumes for Rudolf Nureyev’s production of Raymonda for The Australian Ballet, Michael Corder’s Romeo and Juliet for the Norwegian National Ballet, and Ben Stevenson’s Alice in Wonderland for Houston Ballet. Baylis also designed plays, operas, operettas and musicals, as well as John Curry’s ice-skating productions.
