Laura Morera (1977–). Spanish ballerina, teacher and répétiteur

Laura Morera trained at The Royal Ballet School and joined The Royal Ballet in 1995. She was promoted to principal in 2007 and danced with the company until she retired from the stage in 2023. A musical and versatile dancer, she was particularly associated with the choreography of Frederick Ashton, Kenneth MacMillan and Liam Scarlett. Her classical repertoire included ballerina roles in Giselle, Coppélia, Don Quixote, La Sylphide, The Nutcracker and La Bayadère. She also danced leading roles in Ashton’s La Fille mal gardée, Cinderella, Daphnis and Chloë, Les Rendezvous, Birthday Offering, The Dream, Symphonic Variations, Rhapsody, The Two Pigeons, Enigma Variations and A Month in the Country; MacMillan’s Manon, Mayerling (in which she danced the roles of Mary Vetsera, Marie Larisch, Mitzi Caspar, Princess Stephanie and Princess Louise), Anastasia, Song of the Earth, Gloria, Elite Syncopations, The Prince of the Pagodas, Las Hermanas and Winter Dreams; Jerome Robbins’ The Concert and Dances at a Gathering; John Cranko’s Onegin; and Christopher Wheeldon’s Alice’s Adventures in Wonderland and The Winter’s Tale. Morera created roles in Scarlett’s Of Mozart, Asphodel Meadows, Sweet Violets, Hansel and Gretel, The Age of Anxiety, and Frankenstein; Kim Brandstrup’s RushesFragments of a Lost Story and ‘See, even Night herself is here’ pas de deux; Wayne McGregor’s Qualia; and Wheeldon’s Like Water for Chocolate and Tryst.
