Jonathan Ollivier (1977-2015). British dancer
Jonathan Ollivier was born in Northampton. He trained at Fairweather School of Dancing and at the Rambert School of Ballet and Contemporary Dance, from which he graduated in 1996. He then joined CAPAB (now Cape Town City Ballet) in South Africa, where he stayed until 1999. Ollivier then returned to Britain to become a principal dancer with Northern Ballet Theatre. He performed many leading roles and was noted for the strength of his dancing. While with Northern Ballet Theatre he won a number of national awards. He left the company in 2007 for a brief stint with Alberta Ballet and also with the Michael Clark Company.
In 2009, Ollivier joined Matthew Bourne’s New Adventures where his performance as the Swan in Bourne’s Swan Lake was widely admired. From 2011 to 2012 he toured Britain in the stage musical Dirty Dancing. Jonathan Ollivier was killed in a motorcycle accident in London in 2015. An evening in his honour was presented at Sadler’s Wells the following year.
