Jean-Denis Malclès (1912–2002). French artist, theatre designer and graphic artist
Jean-Denis Malclès trained at the École Boulle in Paris, and designed extensively for the Comédie Française, the Paris Opéra and the Opéra Comique. He designed ballets for Roland Petit and is chiefly remembered in the UK as the original designer for Cinderella, Frederick Ashton’s first three-act work for the Sadler’s Wells Ballet. Malclès also worked as a graphic artist, and designed the posters for the Jean Cocteau film, La Belle et la Bête.
