Gabriel Fauré (1845-1924). French composer and teacher
Gabriel Fauré was a French composer whose lyrical, heartfelt music and teaching whilst professor (and later director) at the Paris Conservatoire influenced many composers, including Maurice Ravel and Nadia Boulanger. Fauré primarily composed songs and music for small, intimate chamber groups. This musical lyricism, expressive harmony and intimacy has entailed the use of Fauré’s music in ballet, though he never wrote an actual ballet score.
