Fergus Early (1946-). British dancer, choreographer, teacher, editor, writer and director

Fergus Early was born in Worthing in 1946. He studied at The Royal Ballet School, and danced with the Royal Ballet from 1964-8. He then worked for Ballet for All as dancer, ballet master and choreographer until 1971. Following this Early worked freelance, including teaching at the London School of Contemporary Dance. In 1976 he founded X6, a dance collective, for which he choreographed, and in 1980 its successor Chisenhale Dance Space. In 1984 he founded Green Candle, a community dance group, for which he choreographed. He was the co-editor of New Dance from 1977 to 1988, and in 2011, with Jacky Lansley, he published The Wise Body: Conversations With Experienced Dancers . Fergus Early was appointed an OBE in 2010.
