Ernst von Dohnányi (1877-1960). Hungarian composer, conductor and musician

Ernst von Dohnányi was a Hungarian composer, pianist and conductor. He studied at the Royal National Hungarian Academy of Music, and embarked on a career as a virtuoso pianist before becoming director at the Budapest Philharmonic Orchestra and the Budapest Academy of Music. Among his early works was the pantomime ballet The Viel of Pierette (1909). His other contribution to ballet is his arrangement in 1897 of the ‘Naila Waltz’, composed by Léo Delibes for inclusion in the ballet Le Corsaire, which has since become a staple of the repertoire.
