David Earl (1951-). South African composer and musician
David Earl is a South African composer and pianist. He studied at Trinity College of Music, working as a pianist and recitalist, before his professional debut in 1980 as a composer with his composition of Chéri for Scottish Ballet, followed by his Piano Concerto No. 1. In 1982 he was commissioned by Cape Town City Ballet to write the music for The Return of the Soldier, and in 1985 for Abelard and Heloise. In 1991 he composed Macbeth for the Ballet de Santiago in Chile. David Earl writes operas, concertos, orchestral works and ballets, and teaches piano at Cambridge University.
