2017 – Kenneth MacMillan Celebration

From the 18 October until 1 November 2017, the Royal Opera House combined the talents of all five of Britain’s major classical ballet companies for the first time to celebrate the 25th anniversary of the death of Kenneth MacMillan. The Royal Ballet performed The Judas Tree, Birmingham Royal Ballet danced Concerto, English National Ballet presented Song of the Earth, Scottish Ballet danced Le Baiser de la fée and Northern Ballet gave an account of Gloria. Collaborative performances of Elite Syncopations that combined dancers from across the five companies were given in certain triple bills, and Yorke Dance Project presented Sea of Troubles in the same week at the Clore Studio Upstairs alongside dancers from English National Ballet and The Royal Ballet in a reimagining of MacMillan’s Jeux (made for a film on the life of Vaslav Nijinsky) by Wayne Eagling.
