Akram Khan’s version of Giselle, performed by English National Ballet at the Palace Theatre, Manchester, in 2016, was a brilliant reimagining, fusing his own dance vocabulary with classical ballet to often thrilling effect. Vincenzo Lamagna’s adaptation of Adolphe Adam’s score underpins the dystopian vision with clever musical references within a modern sound world. The designs were by Tim Yip and the original cast included Alina Cojocaru, James Streeter, Cesar Corrales and Stina Quagebeur.
