1980 – Premiere of Peter Darrell’s Chéri by Scottish Ballet

Down Arrow

Based on the novel by Colette, Peter Darrell created Chéri for Scottish Ballet’s appearance at the Edinburgh International Festival in 1980. With a commissioned score by David Earl, and designs by Philip Prowse, the original cast included Galina Samsova and Patrick Bissell, a guest artist from American Ballet Theatre. The leading role of Léa was later associated with Scottish Ballet’s own leading ballerina, Elaine McDonald.
