1975 – The Royal Ballet performs Jerome Robbins’ The Concert for the first time

Jerome Robbins’ exploration of Frédéric Chopin found a comic outlet in The Concert, originally performed by New York City Ballet in 1956 and staged by The Royal Ballet in 1975. Audience-members at a piano recital depart on flights of ever-increasingly zany fantasy. As director, Kenneth MacMillan did much to broaden the company’s repertoire; The Concert exploited the many comic talents of an exceptional selection of Royal Ballet dancers of the time, including Lynn Seymour, Michael Coleman, Georgina Parkinson and Graham Fletcher. The costumes were by Irene Sharaff.
