1968 – Premiere of Glen Tetley’s Embrace Tiger and Return to Mountain by Ballet Rambert

Down Arrow

Inspired by the concentrated tranquility of Chinese T’ai-chi, Glen Tetley’s Embrace Tiger and Return to Mountain indicated the continuing re-focusing of Ballet Rambert’s repertoire towards the contemporary. It featured ten dancers on an empty stage with a silver floor. Morton Subotnik’s electronic score is generally slow and crystalline. Performed at the Jeanetta Cochrane Theatre, London, in 1968, the designs were by Nadine Baylis and the original cast included Mary Willis, Christopher Bruce, Gayrie McSween and Peter Curtis.
